Gorazd Renčelj graduated in International Relations at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana in 2002. In 2003 he graduated with master's degree at the Centre for European Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.
 
In 2004 he started working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. From 2005 to 2008, i. a. during Slovenia’s presidency of the EU, he worked as Foreign Policy Advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia. Later on he served as Economic Counsellor at Slovenian Embassies in London, United Kingdom, and Washington D.C., USA. In 2015 he graduated with Master of International Public Policy degree at the Johns Hopkins University – Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies.

Before the appointment as the State secretary he was working in the Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy.
 
Mr Renčelj was appointed as Member of the ESM Board of Directors in February 2017, and as Member of the EFSF Board of Directors in June 2017.

He is married and has three children.
