Steven Costers worked for some time at the Belgian Railway Company (NMBS – SNCB) before joining the Belgian Treasury in March 1991, Administration of International and European Financial Affairs, where he dealt with IMF and European issues. In November 1997, he was appointed Financial Counselor at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the European Union. In April 2002 he returned back to the Treasury . In 2008 he was reappointed Financial Counselor at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU. During his stay at the Permanent Representation of Belgium, in July 2014, he was appointed EFC and EWG Alternate and ESM Alternate Director. In May 2015 he was appointed full Treasury member of the EFC and EWG and was appointed Director for Belgium of the ESM and EFSF. On 1 April 2016, he returned back to the Treasury where he became the Head of the European Department.

Mr Costers (1962) holds a Master in Applied Economics from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL) and a Master in Business Informatics from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
