Herbert Barth

Herbert Barth was employed by the ESM until December 2022. He was Consultant and Special Advisor to the CFO at the ESM.

He focused on strategy in the area of capital markets innovation and ESG, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. Herbert joined the ESM in November 2014.

Between 2010 and 2014, Herbert was Head of Funding at the European Commission, Directorate General ECFIN. In this function he oversaw all funding operations of the European Union in the capital markets during the financial crisis, in particular all EFSM – European Financial Stability Mechanism bond issues.

From 2004 until 2010 Herbert was Head of Unit Treasury and Borrowing at the European Commission, Directorate General ECFIN. Herbert joined the European Commission in 1984.
