Carlos Cuerpo

Carlos Cuerpo was appointed Secretary General and International Financing of the Spanish Treasury, at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, on August 24, 2021. Before joining the Treasury, he was the Director General of Macroeconomic Analysis at the same Ministry. In this role, he managed the Government's official macroeconomic forecasts accompanying the General State Budget, the Budgetary Plan, and the Stability Programme of Spain. Prior to his appointment as Director General, between 2014 and 2020, Cuerpo served at the newly created Spanish Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF). First as Deputy Director of Public Debt and later as Director of the Economic Analysis Division.
Mr Cuerpo began his career in public service, having joined the Spanish Corp of State Economists in 2008. Subsequently, in 2014, he worked as a national expert in the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission.
Carlos Cuerpo holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Autonomous University of Madrid, a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Extremadura.
