Pierre Gramegna's keynote address at Financial Street Forum 2025
🔍 How can multilateral financial institutions adapt to support stability and innovation in a rapidly changing world?
For the second consecutive year, ESM Managing Director Pierre Gramegna delivered a keynote address at the Annual Conference of the Financial Street Forum organised by China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange, reflecting on the evolving role of international partnerships and multilateral institutions.
Pierre Gramegna highlighted the importance of investors from China and other Asian countries for the ESM’s investor base and welcomed the cooperation with institutions in Asia, like the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Given the evolving economic landscape, these partnerships are essential for fostering much needed multilateral cooperation. As the EU and China celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, he also underscored the opportunities to deepen cooperation and jointly address global challenges.
Pierre Gramegna also emphasised that multilateral institutions must adapt rapidly to address risks such as climate change, population ageing, and transformative technologies like AI.
At the ESM, integrating cutting-edge technology is a cornerstone of its strategy to remain responsive to current challenges and proactively positioned to harness future opportunities. To that end, it is developing AI tools to enhance bond issuance and market intelligence, together with University of Luxembourg.
By cooperating, sharing knowledge, and coordinating actions, multilateral institutions can better prepare for the future.
