Vítor Constâncio and Klaus Regling in panel discussion on strengthening banking and fiscal union

Luxembourg, 9 December 2019

Vítor Constâncio, former Vice-President of the European Central Bank (ECB), and ESM Managing Director Klaus Regling discussed further measures needed to strengthen banking and fiscal union such as the reform of EU fiscal rules and a euro area safe asset. The discussion was moderated by ESM Senior Economic Press Officer Juliana Dahl.

Ahead of the panel discussion, Mr Constâncio gave a presentation “Deepening Economic and Monetary Union: what else is needed?” , in which he called for a European Stabilisation Fund, revising the Stability and Growth Pact and a euro area safe asset.
