Miguel Angel Gavilan Rubio

Economist, Economic Risk Analysis

Miguel A. Gavilan-Rubio is an Economist in the Economic and Risk Analysis division at the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), which he joined in 2023. He serves as the macroeconomic expert for Ireland and contributes to the ESM’s early warning system through applied macroeconomic analysis.

Before joining the ESM, Mr Gavilan-Rubio worked in the Monetary Policy Analysis Unit at the Bank of Slovenia and served as a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Essex, where he also completed his PhD in Economics under the supervision of Professor Stefan Niemann. He has also worked as an external consultant in the Fiscal Policies Division at the European Central Bank and as a junior researcher at the Banco de México.

His areas of expertise include monetary economics and macroeconomics, with a current research focus on assessing the macroeconomic effects of climate change.
