Jemima Peppel-Srebrny
Jemima Peppel-Srebrny is a Senior Economist at the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). She works on global and US macro, sovereign risk and climate risk analysis in the Economic and Market Analysis division. She led the development of the ESM’s Chief Economist Department’s climate strategy, currently being implemented, that seeks to integrate climate risk into the ESM’s economic monitoring and toolkit.
Prior to joining the ESM in 2020, Ms Peppel-Srebrny was a Junior Engagement Manager at McKinsey, focussing on public and financial sector clients across Europe, Eastern Africa and the US. She holds a PhD (DPhil) in economics, a Masters (MPhil) in economics as well as a BA in philosophy and economics from the University of Oxford, and spent time as a researcher at Berkeley and the European Central Bank.
Her academic research focusses on the links between sovereign risk and public finance, exploring whether the drivers of government deficits or debt increases – most crucially, public investment vs. other expenditure types – matter from the perspective of government bond markets. Her research interests are broadly in the areas of sovereign risk, public finance and investment, and climate risk.
