ESM appoints David Vegara as Deputy Managing Director with responsibility for banking

 Luxembourg – ESM has appointed David Vegara as Deputy Managing Director with responsibility for banking. The ESM’s Managing Director Klaus Regling said: “I am delighted that David Vegara is taking over this key responsibility. Banking issues are increasingly central to the ESM and David has unique competences in this field.” David Vegara also becomes a member of the ESM Management Board.

Mr Vegara joined the EFSF on 20 September 2012 as Senior Advisor to the EFSF’s CEO Klaus Regling. He previously worked at the IMF where he was Deputy Director of the Western Hemisphere Department. Prior to joining the IMF, he was State Secretary for Economic Affairs at the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Finance from 2004 to 2009. Mr Vegara acted as Chairman for the European Union’s Financial Services Committee from 2005 to 2009. Before that he worked in the private sector as Chairman of the Spanish brokerage firm InterMoney.

Mr Vegara has taught at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and has published on financial market issues. He holds a Master of Science from the London School of Economics and an Economics degree from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
