On 2 and 3 December 2025, the ESM and SUERF organised a conference “Geopolitical Disruptions and Debt Sustainability.” It gathered researchers, academics and policymakers from European and international institutions, universities, central banks, and the private sector. They discussed the growing impact of geopolitical disruptions on public debt, and how Europe can build the resilience necessary to address this challenge.

The panel sessions focused on such topics as: geopolitical and trade disruptions, and resulting risks to debt sustainability; the macroeconomic impact of global disruptions; how to make sovereign debt safe and sustainable in the EU.
