Makis Keravnos

Minister of Finance

Makis Keravnos was appointed Minister of Finance on 1 March 2023.

From 1983 to 2003, Mr Keravnos worked at the Human Resource Development Authority, the Training and Development Directorate and the Research and Planning Directorate as a Senior Officer. In March 2003, he was appointed Minister of Labor and Social Insurance and in May 2004 he was appointed Minister of Finance, where he served until the end of 2005. In September 2005, he assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Bank, where served until September 2014. He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CyBC and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Alico Life Insurance Company.

Mr Keravnos was a founding member and elected President of the Pancyprian Association of Economists. Since 2015, he has been active as an independent consultant in financial matters, management matters, strategic planning and business development. He has given lectures at Universities of Cyprus, at the Center for European and International Affairs of the University of Nicosia and at international conferences. He has published dozens of articles in scientific journals and newspapers. He was appointed as a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Cyprus from October 2018 until February 2023.

Mr Keravnos studied Economics at the University of Athens and completed postgraduate studies in Development Economics, Industrial Relations and received further training in new technology and human resources development.
