Agenda
ESM Managing Director Klaus Regling will participate in the High Level Seminar on "Strengthening the economic governance of the euro: short term priorities and the long-term view", organised by Banco de España on 23 May.
A first panel on Short-term challenges towards a complete EMU will discuss the reform agenda that is feasible to pursue in the current European parliamentary cycle (until 2019).
The second panel on Long-term prospects for a cohesive EMU will address the medium- to long-run steps necessary to increase the euro area’s capacity to prevent crisis and to manage them when they strike. In particular, some topics to discuss would be: what more should be done to increase structural convergence and to achieve stronger macroeconomic stabilization in the event of shocks? What are the pros and cons of introducing a synthetic euro-area safe asset? What are the reforms necessary to address the redenomination risk? What should be the role of Eurobonds?
